Autumn in Val Pusteria: where to find the most beautiful Foliage

Val Pusteria is also called “the green valley”, and for good reason. The Dolomites that dominate the landscape are the backdrop to pastures as far as the eye can see and lakes set in the mountains. If in summer it is filled with activities for young and old, autumn in Val Pusteria guarantees just as much magic in contact with nature in the silence left by the shouting of summer.
The Foliage phenomenon, that is the change in color of the leaves, is at its best in the boundless valleys surrounded by woods in the area. Enthusiasts will surely find the ideal places to be amazed by the “burning” leaves.
Impossible not to start from Lake Braies, which is surrounded by trees that gradually take on the colors of autumn, coloring in patches and creating incredible contrasts. Overlooking the Croda del Becco, it can also be visited by bicycle in a circuit that can be covered in more or less an hour, and which allows you to admire every shade of the emerald green of the waters that mixes with the warm colors of autumn in Val Pusteria. To end the day? A visit to the Malga Foresta, reachable with a simple walk, where you can taste the speck they produce and one of the best strudels in the whole valley.
The San Candido cycle path that leads to Lienz in Austria also guarantees 40 kilometers of pure spectacle.
In the nearby Val Fiscalina, on the other hand, which crosses the Tre Cime di Lavaredo Natural Park to the Fondovalle refuge, we can see the dense forests of larch trees change, conifers that reach up to 30 meters in height. In this area you can witness the suggestive and typical scenery of those who walk in the valley: the grazing cows, the wooden barns, the small farms scattered here and there and, above all, a unique silence. Thanks to the fact that the small Val Fiscalina is only 4.5 kilometers long and is forbidden to cars.
Autumn in Val Pusteria is as if it comes suddenly and lasts just long enough to prepare the trees for the winter season, which strips them with cold winds as soon as the leaves have stopped setting the mountain on fire. A walk that guarantees total immersion and makes us feel completely in contact with autumnal nature is certainly within the Tre Cime Natural Park, the Isarco Valley and the Funes Valley.
